UNIMA European Commission/ GUIGNOL campaign
Our friends in Lyon, France, are campaigning to have GUIGNOL added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Nina Monova, President of the UNIMA European Commission invites us all to add our support to this campaign. Guignol isn’t just a local hero – he’s an international treasure.
You are invited, nay urged, to show your support for this campaign by visiting the website below and filling in the online form. The form is in French but your entry needn’t be. The statement reads:
“I support the inclusion of Guignol on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in order to establish international recognition for Theatre Guignol as part of our living heritage, born of the mixing of cultures, and deeply inscribed in the landscape French culture, in order to facilitate the transmission of his art and traditions to future generations.”
The final decision is down to UNESCO alone but we can all take this opportunity to exert some influence.
