TAIWAN & MALAYSIA/ “Revitalizing and conserving traditional (puppet) theatre, and…having fun!” by Dr. Robin Ruizendaal, Director of TTT Puppet Centre/Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum, Taiwan.

This talk was presented in Penang earlier this week. Notice has only just reached BrUNIMA but as the talk was in English it seems something we should tap into. In this talk the speaker discussed how to create and promote a performing arts centre and exhibition space with a limited budget and how to enter the local and international performing arts market, as well as how to interact with the audience, the government and corporate sponsors. The traditional performing arts in Asia are exciting, entertaining and colourful music theatre and are a great tool for language, music and theatre education. Despite the rise of electronic media, traditional theatre can adapt and transform in this new digital era. Dr Ruizendaal examained how companies in Taiwan (and China) work to transform, create and conserve the traditional performing arts and use them as inspiration for modern productions.
