Puppet Saturdays Lecture Series: Going Small – Exploring Lambe-Lambe & Miniature Theatre
On 22nd February 2025, UNIMA Nordic invites you to join a fascinating online discussion all about the world of Lambe-Lambe and Miniature Theatre. You might be wondering: what exactly is Lambe-Lambe? Well, it's a form of street theatre that involves tiny, intimate performances, often told through the lens of puppetry. Think small, but powerful – just the way art should be! 🎭
To get a sense of what Lambe-Lambe theatre is all about, check out this prototype scratch piece of Lambe-Lambe Theatre created during Fagner Gastaldon's course in 2024. The piece raises awareness about a serious issue – the exploitation of monkeys in social media videos – showcasing how small-scale theatre can tackle big issues with a personal touch.
This event will feature Tessa Rivarola (Iceland/Paraguay), Gabriela Céspedes (Argentina), and Fras Theatre (Czech Republic) – three incredibly talented artists who bring miniature puppetry to life in different ways. They’ll be sharing insights into the creativity and skill that go into these tiny, yet impactful performances. Whether it’s a story unfolding inside a tiny box or a puppet world no bigger than your hand, these performances are proof that size doesn’t matter when it comes to great storytelling.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
Tessa, Gabriela, and Fras Theatre will discuss their unique approaches to miniature puppetry and the intimate nature of their craft.
You’ll learn about how small-scale performances can have such a big emotional impact on their audience.
You’ll hear about the artistry involved in creating these miniature worlds and how these performances challenge our expectations of what theatre can be.
This event is a great chance for anyone passionate about puppetry – whether you’re a seasoned puppeteer, a theatre maker, or simply a curious soul – to explore the art form in a new light. It’s a perfect blend of storytelling, creativity, and intimacy.
