Let the Wildness In: BrUNIMA Engages with THE HERDS Education Programme
A Global Movement for Art and Climate Action - Next webinar 11 April 2025
Today, BrUNIMA (27/03/2025) had the pleasure of attending THE HERDS webinar, where we learnt about Let the Wildness In, the third instalment in a series of inspiring educational events. This initiative, developed by The Walk Productions, provides educators worldwide with incredible resources to create sustainable puppets—offering young minds an engaging way to explore environmental issues while connecting with a global movement for climate action.
What is THE HERDS?
THE HERDS is an unprecedented public art and climate action project that brings together culture and environmental advocacy. From April to August 2025, life-size puppet animals will travel an extraordinary 20,000km journey from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle, symbolising their flight from climate disaster.
Key stops along the way include Kinshasa, Lagos, Dakar, Marrakesh, Madrid, Marseille, Paris, Manchester, London, Stockholm, and beyond, culminating in a powerful final event in the Arctic Circle. The initiative unites leading artists, organisations, and educators in a mission to challenge perspectives on the climate crisis through world-class artistic interventions.
Let the Wildness In: A Dynamic Education Programme
As part of THE HERDS, Let the Wildness In is an interactive learning experience designed to immerse students in six unique ecosystems, encouraging them to explore biodiversity, conservation efforts, and the impact of climate change. The education packs provide step-by-step guidance on crafting sustainable puppets representing animals from these habitats, including:
Congo Basin: Create a pangolin and learn about this remarkable rainforest environment. Download the education pack, Puppet pattern and get making
Arctic: Discover puffins and their fragile icy habitat. Friday 11 April REGISTER HERE
Sahara Desert: Meet the fennec fox, a creature adapted to extreme conditions.
Mediterranean Sea: Explore the life of the endangered sea turtle.
Northern Forests: Learn about the role of hedgehogs in forest ecosystems.
Central African Mangroves: Dive into the world of flamingos and coastal wetlands.
By downloading the education packs and puppet guides, students and educators can engage in hands-on learning, creatively contributing to a global conversation on climate action.
